Solarium History
The concept of indoor tanning, using artificial UV light, dates back to the early 20th century.
However, the modern tanning bed, or solarium, was developed in the 1960s. These early tanning beds used fluorescent lamps that emitted UV light, and were primarily used for medical purposes, such as treating seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and other skin conditions.
In the 1970s, tanning beds began to be marketed for cosmetic use, and the industry has grown significantly since then.
Today, there are many different types of tanning beds and other indoor tanning devices available, and tanning salons can be found in many parts of the world
